“If I explain enough, they will understand.”
“If I give enough reasons, they’ll accept my no.”
When your voice says:
“If I give enough reasons, they’ll accept my no.”
“I have to justify my right to have a limit.”
Coach Lynn says:
More explanation does not always create more understanding. It can invite a negotiation you do not need to have.
Then you say:
Here’s what I need to do:
- Settle my body with one or more Composure Breaths.
- Say my boundary in one or two sentences, such as: "I'm not able to stay late on Fridays."
- Give one reason at most, or none. Every extra reason is something they can argue with.
- If they push back, repeat it calmly, using the same words: "I understand. I'm still not able to."
Coach Lynn says:
A clear boundary doesn't need a courtroom defense. When you say it simply and repeat it calmly, you stop negotiating your needs and hold your ground with quiet composure and confidence.
