“They will be upset if I say no.”

“If I say no, they’ll be upset.”

When your voice says:

“If I say no, they’ll be upset.”

“It’s easier to just say yes.”

Coach Lynn says:

You cannot control another person’s reaction, but you can give an honest answer about your capacity.

Then you say:

Here’s what I need to do:

  • Take one or more Composure Breaths to settle my body.
  • Do not answer immediately.
  • Check my time, energy, and existing commitments.
  • Give a clear response based on what I can reasonably do.

Coach Lynn says:

Someone else’s disappointment doesn’t make your boundary wrong. When you honor what’s right for you, you’re free to move forward boldly and build the legacy you want.
