“I keep reliving it.”
“It keeps playing over and over.”
When your voice says:
“It keeps playing over and over.”
“I need to go through it one more time.”
Coach Lynn says:
Repeated replay can keep the past emotionally present. You can acknowledge the memory without giving it unlimited access to your attention.
Then you say:
Here’s what I need to do:
- Take one or more Composure Breaths to settle my body.
- Name five things I can see, hear, or feel in the present moment.
- Set aside a limited time for reflection if it is useful.
- Return to one current activity when the reflection time ends.
Coach Lynn says:
The past is real, but so is right now. When you change the memory channel and forget that weight, you’re free to win in the present.
