“That moment proves I’m a failure.”
“That one moment shows who I really am.”
When your voice says:
“That one moment shows who I really am.”
“Everyone saw it. That’s my story now.”
Coach Lynn says:
That is labeling and overgeneralization. A moment has boundaries. It happened in a particular place, time, and set of circumstances.
Then you say:
Here’s what I need to do:
- Take one or more Composure Breaths to settle my body.
- Describe the event without a global label.
- Identify a piece of evidence from my wider life that contradicts the disappointing moment.
- Choose the next action that fits the present, not the verdict.
Coach Lynn says:
A moment can matter without defining you. When you trust your resilience, the unknown feels less daunting, and you’re free to take bold action again.
