“I can’t forgive myself.”

“I don’t deserve to let this go.”

When your voice says:

“I don’t deserve to let this go.”

“If I stop feeling guilty, it means it didn’t matter.”

Coach Lynn says:

These are separate steps. You can take responsibility without making permanent self-punishment your identity.

Then you say:

Here’s what I need to do:

  • Take one or more Composure Breaths to settle my body.
  • Write one honest sentence about my part: "I'm responsible for ___." Keep it to the facts, not a judgment of who I am.
  • Ask: "Is there anything I can still do to make this right?" If yes, such as an apology or a fix, decide when I'll do it. If not, accept that.
  • Name one specific thing I'll do differently next time, such as: "When I'm stressed, I'll pause before I respond."

Coach Lynn says:

Forgiving yourself doesn't erase what happened. It ends the extra punishment. When you own your part, repair what you can, and carry the lesson forward, you’re free to grow instead of staying stuck.
