“It’s all-or-nothing”
“If it isn’t perfect, the whole thing is worthless.”
When your voice says:
“If it isn’t perfect, the whole thing is worthless.”
“Either this is a flawless success or it’s a total failure.”
Coach Lynn says:
That is the inner judge collapsing a wide range of decent, useful, and worthwhile outcomes into two extremes that do not actually exist.
Then you say:
Here’s what I need to do:
- Take one or more Composure Breaths to settle my body.
- Name one part that is working, out loud: “The … works pretty well.”
- Define what “good enough for now” looks like.
- Finish the task to that standard.
Coach Lynn says:
Done and imperfect beats perfect and unfinished. When you define “good enough for now” and finish to that standard, you trade the inner judge’s pressure for real progress.
