“I should have said something different.”

“I should have said it differently.”

When your voice says:

“I should have said it differently.”

“If only I’d come up with the perfect line.”

Coach Lynn says:

You cannot revise a past conversation by replaying it. You can carry one useful communication lesson into the next one.

Then you say:

Here’s what I need to do:

  • Take one or more Composure Breaths to settle my body.
  • Turn the line I wish I'd said into a simple rule for next time, such as: "When I'm caught off guard, I'll ask for a minute to think."
  • Write that rule in my phone or on a note so it's ready when I need it.
  • When the replay starts again, say: "That conversation is over. The lesson is saved." Then bring my attention back to now.

Coach Lynn says:

The lesson belongs in the next conversation, not the last one. When you carry one insight forward, you release the replay and show up present, clear, and ready to connect.
